Description
Kentucky agate is a prized, banded variety of microcrystalline quartz (chalcedony) known for its vibrant, distinct layers of red, orange, yellow, black, and gray, primarily found in east-central Kentucky’s creeks, especially in Estill, Jackson, and Powell counties, often revealed after rain and prized by collectors for its unique colors and patterns. Officially designated Kentucky’s State Gemstone in 2024, these beautiful, colorful nodules are found within duller exterior mineral clusters and are highly sought after by rockhounds
